With Margaret, Next Door and Baker Bleu, celebrated Aussie chef Neil Perry has completely transformed a patch of Double Bay. And while his latest opening – Cantonese dining room Song Bird – was short-lived, he’s got grand plans for the space: Gran Torino. The incoming Italian dining room opens on Saturday August 9, and just a few days later Perry’s hosting Broadsheet readers especially for the debut Dine Out festival.
Diners will be some of the first to experience the transformed two-storey space, enjoying a multi-course spread of antipasti, pasta, mains and sides served family-style. Plus, Perry’s cheffy take on soft-serve to finish.
When you arrive at 6.30pm, you’ll be welcomed by a glass from Cat Amongst the Pigeons, then you’re welcome to order à la carte from Gran Torino’s drinks list (that means Bellinis, Martinis, bitter vermouths and no shortage of Campari and Aperol). Mid-meal, hear Perry chat all things Gran Torino with Broadsheet ’s editorial director Katya Wachtel.
