Defend the Sydney Opera House
Update: This event has been brought forward to 7pm.
In response to the NSW government's decision to allow the upcoming Everest horse race to be promoted on the sails of the Sydney Opera House, a "light-based protest" has been organised for Tuesday October 9.
On the first evening of the planned projections, protestors are encouraged to gather at Bennelong Point and use light sources such as smartphones, torches and even boat lamps to collectively “express displeasure” at the advertising projections.
The mysterious event organiser – known on social media as "Desk" – has made clear it won’t be an “official protest” as “there is no organiser and there is no permit.”
The guidelines for the "counter-projection event" strongly advise against the use of drones and laser pointers.
