David Helfgott at City Recital Hall
Acclaimed Australian pianist David Helfgott will bring his solo recital of romantic works to Sydney for one night only.
The beloved musician's life is depicted in the 1996 biopic Shine, in which Helfgott is portrayed by Oscar-winning actor Geoffrey Rush.
Helfgott's musical talent and boundless potential was recognised when he was a youngster. But the artist experienced increasing emotional instability in the 1970s, which interfered with his playing. After being rediscovered a decade later (playing in a piano bar in Perth), Helfgott's talent was again remembered and celebrated around the world.
Now in his seventies, Helfgott performs internationally and his wife, Gillian, travels with him. In 2008 he was inducted into the Australian Walk of Fame.
Starts at 7:30pm.
