Cult Classics and Celluloid Nightmares at Ritz Cinema
If you weren’t yet born when Apocalypse Now was in cinemas, or were too young to check out Boogie Nights when it was first released, now’s your chance to catch those old-school classics – and many others – on the big screen.
Until October 25, The Ritz in Randwick will be screening a huge range of retro films in two categories: Cult Classics (blockbusters from the past 50 years) and, on Friday nights, Celluloid Nightmares (horror and sci-fi from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s). Several of the screenings will use celluloid film rather than digital.
Expect critically-acclaimed films such as 2001: A Space Odyssey and Blade Runner; Aussie favorites Muriel’s Wedding and The Castle; a Lord of the Rings trilogy marathon; and kid-friendly classics such as The Muppet Movie and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If you’re a horror fan, scream through The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, shudder through The Silence of the Lambs and cover your eyes during The Evil Dead.
On Friday the 13th (of September), there'll be a 20th anniversary screening of The Blair Witch Project in gloriously grisly 35mm.
