Get a complimentary double pass to the Museum of Contemporary Art’s intriguing winter exhibition, Hiroshi Sugimoto: Time Machine.

Over the past 50 years, photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto has created some of the most celebrated and recognisable images in contemporary art. Exclusive to The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Hiroshi Sugimoto: Time Machine is the largest exhibition to date of the internationally renowned artist’s work.

Uncovering photography's ability to document and invent, see Sugimoto’s playful application of 19th-century practices and ideas through the artist's depictions of various subjects like seascapes, theatres, architecture and waxworks, captured throughout his career. Each working to blur perceptions and reality. For Sugimoto, photography is uniquely suited for preserving and picturing time’s passage – it’s a kind of time machine.

You’ll find more than 100 artworks from over five decades of practice, including Diana, Princess of Wales (1999), a photograph of Diana’s wax likeness from Sugimoto’s series Portraits (1999); and Sea of Buddha 001 (1995), a curated reflection of the 1001 statues of Kannon housed at Sanjusangendo Temple in Kyoto.

See Sugimoto’s philosophical yet playful inquiry into our understanding of time and memory, and witness photography’s ability to both document and invent.

Access members can enjoy a complimentary double pass to this exhibition, available only from August 2 to October 27.
