Up Close: Somos by Sydney Dance Company
In its latest season of work, Sydney Dance Company (SDC) presents Somos – a part of its inaugural Up Close series – at the waterfront Walsh Bay Arts Precinct’s Neilson Studio.
Translating to “we are” in Spanish, the performance is led by revered choreographer and the company’s artistic director, Rafael Bonachela. Born in Spain, Bonachela began dancing in Barcelona and trained at the prestigious Rambert Dance Company in London before moving to Sydney and taking the helm of SDC in 2009.
A lineup of solo, duo and trio performances – nodding to Bonochela’s Spanish heritage – will make up Somos, set against a score of music by Latin artists including the likes of Rosalia, Silvia Perez Cruz, Chavela Vargas and Buika.
To fuel guests pre and post-show, the SDC’s cafe will transform into Bar Boca, a pop-up tapas bar, open just for the season. Plus, there’ll be live Spanish music to enjoy on Friday and Saturday nights.
Tickets cost between $35 to $85.
