Chewing Gum Dreams at the Old Fitz Theatre
Looking back, 14 years old is an odd age – early teens, no longer a child, but not a fully fledged young adult, either.
That strange adolescent in-between is the subject of Chewing Gum Dreams, the senior graduate play of British writer Michaela Coel (writer, star and co-director of the critically acclaimed I May Destroy You). It follows Tracey, a 14-year-old in her last days of childhood before she’s pushed into adulthood – a hard place to be when you’re poor and black.
The irreverent show’s Australian premiere is being put on by Green Door Theatre Company and Red Line Productions, starring Masego Pitso and directed by Bernadette Fam.
