Cherry Blossom Festival at World Square
Retail and food precinct World Square will be transformed into a tunnel of pink with the return of its annual Cherry Blossom Festival from August 12 to September 1.
With cherry blossoms in full bloom at Auburn’s Botanic Gardens, this event brings a taste of the seasonal blooms to the CBD. Both real and augmented-reality displays of the pink beauties will brighten the concrete jungle (look out for the cherry-blossom arbour tunnel and traditional torii gate), plus there’ll be more than 30 shopping offers, Japanese cultural activities, and food and drink specials.
Reflecting the Japanese origins of the cherry blossom celebration, there’ll be traditional Japanese drumming, calligraphy demonstrations, bonsai workshops and Yosakoi dancing on display. Try your hand at folding origami and help contribute to the 1000 cranes displayed at the centre, or take part in a high-tech AR gaming experience. Brew matcha tea at T2, and learn to roll your own sushi with Sushi Hub.
The festival features some exclusive pink foods and drinks from some of World Square’s eateries. Start off with a pink coffee from Mediterranean restaurant Gazzi and a cherry blossom-inspired sweet treat from Hokkaido Pafu. Oh Matcha will be serving cherry-blossom ice-cream and milkshakes, while Fratelli Famous will dish up teriyaki pizza. Plus, The Bavarian will be doing cherry cocktails.
A number of retailers in the centre will also be offering special deals for the duration of the festival. Snap up discounts and gifts with purchase from Burger Project, Dainty Sichuan, L’Occitane, Sneaker Exchange and more.
