Charlie Middleton x sixD Pop-Up
Bondi-based leather accessories label Charlie Middleton and jewellery-maker sixD – both known for their handmade, customisable products – have opened a joint pop-up shop in the CBD.
Charlie Middleton’s buttery-soft leather totes are made to order and come in more than 40 colours, which range from soft blush to practical black. There are also four handle colours to choose from and three “hardware” options – rose gold, gold or silver studs. Plus, there are coin purses, clutches and travel bags.
Owner and craftsman Ben Thompson, who, with his team of designers, hand makes every bag from a Bondi Road workshop and store, drawing on the label’s timeless 200-plus collection.
Longevity is also something sixD founder and designer Daisy Daet aims for. Each of her pieces – earrings, necklaces, rings and bracelets – can be changed for its wearer with personalised charms, gemstones and chain lengths.
Daet opts for old-school techniques such as wax casting and intricate wirework and sets gemstones by hand. All of her jewellery is handmade in her Sydney workshop using materials including sterling silver, 14- to 18-carat gold, freshwater pearls, rubies, sapphires and other precious gemstones.
While sixD’s aesthetic is modern, its collections draw on a range of historical symbolism, from ancient Greek and Roman mythology, to religion, astrology, sacred geometry and the potential healing powers of plants, flowers and crystals.
Thompson and Daet have been friends for years and their complementary approaches to design made collaboration a natural step.
