Celsius: A Dinner and Wine Pairing by Taylors Wines with Africola’s Duncan Welgemoed
Taylors Wines and Duncan Welgemoed, Executive Chef of acclaimed Adelaide restaurant Africola, are teaming up to create Celsius, a pop-up designed to challenge preconceptions of wine and temperature.
Utilising cutting-edge technology, Welgemoed and Taylors Wines will break from the tradition of “cold” whites and “room temperature” reds to precisely alter temperatures and offer guests an entirely new dining experience.
Held at the Commune creative space in Waterloo, the high-tech event will utilise a blacked-out room, where diners will use thermal camera technology to visualise the temperature of the food and wine they are served.
Guests will receive a glass of Taylors Estate pinot noir chardonnay brut cuvée on arrival, before sitting down to a three-course dinner with matched wines.
Welgemoed is a wunderkind of the Australian dining world. The South African-born chef serves up a one-of-a-kind menu at Africola, his African-inspired Adelaide restaurant-turned-institution.
Welgemoed will present dishes designed to celebrate the best of South Australian produce, such as raw kingfish served with shio koji and seaweed; whole-roasted sirloin of Clare Valley beef with bourguignon vinaigrette, bone marrow and young garlic; and roasted peaches, Mintaro apple blossom jelly and vanilla custard.
Tickets are limited to two sittings of 30 guests over four nights.
