No cake, no entry. That’s the rule of Cake Picnic, the US-born cake exchange making its Sydney debut on Saturday March 28. Last weekend it hit Melbourne, where it was a frosted extravaganza, and the same is expected here when 500 guests arrive to the Royal Botanic Garden’s Tarpiean Lawn.
Now, the main event is sold out, but the Ace Hotel is hosting Cake Picnic Social in the back-lane Good Chemistry space, and it will be just as sweet. Pick the 5pm or 6pm slot, then roll in to hang out while enjoying a cake decorating masterclass, a slice of cake from the soon-to-come Cake Picnic cookbook, and a cocktail (or mocktail).
There’s a chance to win a coveted ticket to the sold-out main event the next day, too. If you’re the lucky winner, just remember: no cake, no entry – so you could be in for a late-night baking session.
