Broomfields Pop-Up at The Rocks
Ryan Broomfield makes really good pies – on and off his bike – with his pie company Broomfields. Even Mike McEnearney of Kitchen by Mike is a fan, specifically of the pork pie: “It is seriously good. Crumbly pastry, dense pork filling, just as it should be,” he wrote for Broadsheet last year.
And this summer, the handcrafted pies will be available from a temporary shopfront at The Rocks – Broomfields’ first shot at a retail location, with the pies usually only available at farmers markets or in venues around Sydney.
The team sources the best ingredients available for the different pies, including Wagyu beef from Vic’s Meat, Hungerford Meat's free-range pork and Bannockburn free-range chicken, encased in all-butter pastry.
Classic flavours include beef and onion, chicken and leek, and cheese and onion, with holiday flavours like the Christmas pie (free-range turkey, pork, white wine, sage stuffing and cranberry) and Boxing Day curry pie (turkey, “Irish chip shop curry sauce”, honey-roasted carrots and Paxo stuffing) to coincide with the Christmas Markets at The Rocks.
The pies are served with potato mash and your choice of gravy, or you can purchase chilled pies to bake at home.
