Gin, summer, romance, fashion. They’re the ingredients of a new art exhibition being held at York Street bar The Barber Shop this summer.
Already doubling as a premium gin-themed cocktail bar and men’s barber, now you can add gallery to the roles played by this moody CBD tavern. This summer it will showcase a series of specially designed original prints from British visual artist Alan Walsh, whose colourful, retro work recalls mid-century pop art. The artist’s latest exhibition is a collaboration with Bombay Sapphire inspired by the combination of summer and gin.
The show features 16 artworks from the designer that offer subtle references to that juniper-based totem of seasonal drinks. Walsh – who works with some of the world’s largest luxury brands – says he pushed himself to think outside the box, making use of glow-in-the-dark and metallic paints for some of these prints. Exclusively commissioned by Bombay Sapphire, each work on display will also be available to purchase, with proceeds donated to Epilepsy Action Australia.
The Love of Gin: Tales Old and New runs at The Barber Shop from 2 December until 15 January.
