Bill Henson: Cloud Landscapes
The seductively dark and dramatic photographs of Australian artist, Bill Henson, are now on display at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
A series of 14 works from the gallery's collection that span Henson's career have been chosen, which include both landscape and figure photographs. Also in the exhibit will be photographs from the Paris Opera Project (1990/1) and the Mahler series (1976).
Known for his painterly and dark technique that utilizes negative spaces and depth of shadow, Henson has been compared to the painter Caravaggio, the father of shadows, for his photographs that could be mistaken for oil paintings.
