Book Now: Ben Quilty With Richard Flanagan on Home
Presented by The School of Life, Archibald Prize-winning Australian artist Ben Quilty will be joined in conversation by author and Man Booker Prize-winner Richard Flanagan to discuss the importance of home. The artist and writer have collaborated on a new book, Home: Drawings by Syrian Children, which is a collection of artworks by children fleeing the Syrian war. The collection's forward was written by Flanagan and it is a vivid depiction of the violence faced by children of war, and of their resilience.
Quilty and Flanagan will reflect on their time spent in Syrian refugee camps researching the book and will also address how many people have memories of home anchored by sadness.
While the event deals with desperate situations, it is also a tribute to the strength of the voiceless and a testimony to the way art inspires compassion and action. Audience members will have a chance to ask questions and to buy the book and have it signed.
From 7pm until 8.30pm.
