The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) has launched the Festival of Australian Film to show the best of this year's Australian cinema.

Kicking off the first night will be special preview screening of romantic comedy Ali's Wedding. Ali is the son of a Muslim cleric and finds himself caught between his sense of duty to his family and following his heart.

Also on the program is The Butterfly Tree starring Melissa George. It follows Evelyn, an ex-burlesque queen, who enthrals Al and his teenage son Fin. When they both realise they are both vying for her, old wounds are reopened.

There will also be screenings of Oscar nominee Lion, and Red Dog: True Blue – the sequel to charming outback classic Red Dog – among many others across two months.
