Australia Sail Grand Prix I Sydney Presented by KPMG 2021
Following a successful first season won by the Australia SailGP Team – led by Australian Olympic gold medalist Tom Slingsby – the seventh event of SailGP’s second season will return to Sydney Harbour on December 17-18 2021.
The event will see eight national teams racing in state-of-the-art F50 wing sail catamarans that can reach speeds of up to 100kmph. Slingsby’s green and gold team once again returns to defend their trophy against the sport’s best athletes from seven other nations – Denmark, France, Great Britain, Japan, New Zealand, Spain and the USA.
Viewers keen to see the exciting racing on water have several options for watching the race - be it on land, behind the scenes, on a spectator boat or from your own boat.
A Waterfront Premium ticket will get you a spot on Shark Island in the middle of the Sydney Harbour race course. The exclusive island arena – located in Sydney Harbour National Park – offers the best land-based view of the racing, as well as big screens for action replays and live race commentary. Food and drink is on hand, plus return ferries for the big day out.
Meanwhile a spot on an official SailGP open top spectator boat – featuring choices of on-water, access or premium tickets – will get you into the heart of the action, offering a thrilling view of the race from inside the public exclusion zone along with live race commentary. Access ticket holders can bring their own food and purchase drinks from the on board bar, while premium ticket holders will enjoy buffet dining and an open bar featuring beer, wine and soft drinks.
If you really want to get a close and personal look at these impressive boats, a Team Base Tour ticket will get you behind the scenes at the team bases on White Bay. Soak up a tour of the pit lane garages and see the athletes and shore teams preparing the vessels ready for racing.
If you’re lucky enough to own your own boat, you can register it for free and receive live updates from race management including race course position, commentary and race timings to help you get the best position on the water.
Away from the racing, Barangaroo will host the SailGP Village and a range of race-related programming. The event is presented by KPMG in partnership with Destination NSW, Crown Sydney, Infrastructure NSW and Port Authority of NSW.
