This dynamic exhibition is one of AGNSW most popular – and it's entirely created by high-school students.

The Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW) is currently exhibiting Artexpress, works of art created by the state's visual-arts students for their HSC.

It's one of the gallery's most innovative – and trafficked – exhibitions. And this year features 56 student artworks chosen from nearly 9000 submissions in 2018. The works come from across Sydney and regional NSW, and from a mix of private- and government-school students.

The projects traverse multiple disciplines, including sculpture, drawings, paintings, textiles, graphic design and photography. Many address issues directly relevant to their young creators, such as gender, race, mental health, environmental issues, family, disadvantage and technology.

For the first time, in 2019, visitors can also view a selection of diaries, journals, and inspiring objects collected during students' studies. These give rare insight into their thought processes and journey throughout the final year of school.

Artexpress runs at AGNSW until April, and then will tour the state, with stops planned in Bathurst, New England, the Blue Mountains, Wagga Wagga and Tamworth, among other places.
