Artexpress 2023 at AGNSW
Every year the Art Gallery of New South Wales exhibits Artexpress, a collection of works created by the state’s visual-arts students for their HSC. It’s one of the gallery’s most innovative – and trafficked – exhibitions, and this is its 40th year running.
It allows the next generation of artists – from across Sydney and regional NSW, and from a mix of private and government schools – into the public arena. Past exhibitors include Ben Quilty, David Griggs, Jasper Knight, Julie Fragar, Tom Polo, Bhenji Ra and Louise Zhang.
This year’s exhibition features 43 pieces selected from 8028 student works from the 2022 higher school certificate cohort. Their artworks traverse multiple disciplines, including ceramics, photography, designed objects, drawing, painting, prints, sculptures and textiles. And many address issues directly relevant to their young creators, such as family life, personal identity, ideas of home and the environment.
Open daily from 10am to 5pm. Entry is free.
