Archie Rose Presents: The Sydney Writers’ Festival Book Club

Thu 11th June, 2020
Price: $55
This year’s Sydney Writers’ Festival may have been cancelled, but this boozy at-home book club might be the next-best thing.

Though the Sydney Writers’ Festival, which was slated to run last week, had to be called off due to coronavirus, the festival has teamed up with Sydney’s Archie Rose Distilling Co to bring you the next best thing: a boozy virtual book club to take the place of one of the festival’s cancelled events.

For $55 per person, book- and booze-lovers can enjoy an Archie Rose Negroni or Golden Gimlet and a copy of The Adversary by Ronnie Scott, one of the most acclaimed Australian books of the year. You’ll also be invited to sit in on a virtual book club with Scott and SWF director Michaela McGuire.

The Adversary is the first novel for Scott, who is the founder of literary journal The Lifted Brow. The novel is set in Melbourne’s inner north and traces the friendship between a group of young men as they navigate their sexuality over one hot summer.

McGuire told Broadsheet that The Adversary is the “Australian literary debut of the year” and compared it to Helen Garner’s modern classic Monkey Grip.

Tickets include the book, one cocktail of your choice and access to the book club on June 11 at 7pm. Tickets and more information here.
