Always – Part of Sydney Festival
January is the perfect time for exploration, and the director of Sydney Festival, Wesley Enoch, wants you to make a resolution to be “culturally courageous” this year.
Start by visiting Always, a thought-provoking, 5.5-metre-high, 28-metre-long sculpture on the Barangaroo headland that spells out the word “always” in huge letters. Created by Helpmann Award-winning Indigenous designer Jacob Nash, the installation is on display during Sydney Festival, and references the phrase “Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land”.
The artwork aims to provoke debate around Indigenous issues in Australia, in particular the debates around Indigenous land rights.
