Alex the Astronaut headlines Express Yourself - Queer Discovery at Sydney Solstice
Beloved live music venue the Metro Theatre has lain dormant since the advent of the Covid pandemic in early 2020. That’s finally all set to change with a party, gig and talent search.
Whipsmart Australian artist Alex The Astronaut leads the line-up for the special Mardi Gras Pride Weekender edition of Express Yourself – Queer Discovery, held as part of Sydney Solstice.
A series of music performances designed to foster and provide a platform for emerging LGBTQI+ artists, Express Yourself – Queer Discovery will see Alex The Astronaut joined by emerging artists such as rapper and producer BVT, alternative pop-rocker Hope D, electro-pop artist Nik Navy and fashion-friendly duo No Frills Twins. Presenter, producer and DJ Faustina Agolley will host.
Each artist on the night will perform alongside an established headliner. Make sure you bring your audience participation shoes, because at the end of the night a panel of judges including music luminaries Gordi, Marcia Hines, APRA AMCOS CEO Dean Ormston, Mardi Gras CEO Albert Kruger and special guest judge Starley will select two emerging artists to perform at a future Mardi Gras event.
A joint initiative between Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and APRA AMCOS, Express Yourself – Queer Discovery is a series of music showcases aiming to foster and provide a platform for emerging LGBTQI+ artists.
