After a stellar debut season, which saw the NAB AFL Women’s Competition attract huge interest, AFLW returns in 2018.
This second-round match between the Greater Western Sydney Giants and Carlton will take place at Drummoyne Oval in Drummoyne, NSW on Friday February 9. This game will be the sides’ second meeting; in their previous clash Carlton was the victor, defeating GWS by 13 points.
All eyes will be on GWS newcomer Cora Staunton. Famous in her homeland of Ireland, Staunton is a Gaelic football legend who started playing the sport in 1995, when she was just 13. Now 36, Staunton will be a senior member of the AFLW league, but even as a debutante she is one of its most experienced players.
Get to the area early for dinner at Zeus Street Greek on Lyons Road, Drummoyne. Following the match, cap off the evening with a fireworks display and free kick-to-kick on the playing field.
