The Affordable Art Fair is back – but not as you know it.
It’s the fourth time the global art fair has come to Sydney, but this time it’s in new digs. Now at Carriageworks having moved from its previous home at Royal Randwick Racecourse, organisers expect to welcome 14,000 visitors over four days.
The show will house stalls from more than 65 galleries, each selling “affordable” pieces targeted at first-time and beginner art collectors. Affordability is undoubtedly subjective, but as a guide, the fair says works are priced between $100 and $10,000.
Some first-time exhibitors include N Smith Gallery, which represents Sulman Prize winners Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro; Paddington’s Art 2 Muse Gallery; Studio W Sydney; and regional favourites like Orange’s Corner Store Gallery.
Returning to the fair will be artist Jackie Case and her “Art ATM”. The installation has become a staple of the Affordable Art Fair. Punters are invited to feed a card into a “machine” to receive an original sketch.
Jason Parker will also be on-site putting the finishing touches on his large-scale rotating mural, which he started at the Melbourne fair.
There’s more room for food and drink at the Carriageworks space, so expect local food trucks as well as wine from Bird in Hand.
