Bangarra Dance Theatre is one of Australia’s top performing arts companies, combining 40,000 years of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture with contemporary dance.
The company, now in its 28th year, will premiere its new, full-length performance Bennelong at Sydney Opera House on June 30.
Broadsheet, in partnership with Bangarra and Bennelong, is giving away four premium tickets to see the live performance, followed by a three-course dinner for four people with matched wines at one of Sydney’s top restaurants, Bennelong. It will be a distinctly Australian evening.
Artistic director Stephen Page’s abstract masterpiece, Bennelong, focuses on the history of Woollarawarre Bennelong, a senior man of the Eora people and the first Aboriginal person to travel to Europe and return to Australia. It poses confronting questions about the dialogue between European and Aboriginal people.
Senior dancer Beau Dean Riley Smith, the man entrusted with bringing Bennelong’s story to life, faces his first lead role. You wouldn’t know it, as he’s poured hours of research into his character and it shows in a seamless re-telling.
The competition is open from June 2 until June 19.
Bennelong will be performed at the Sydney Opera House from June 30 to July 22. More information here.
Broadsheet is a proud media partner of Bangarra.
