In August, Taronga Zoo’s resident meerkats Nairobi and Maputo gave birth to two little babies. The zoo is witnessing a baby boom for meerkats. Nairobi has been a busy lady, popping out another six babies – the largest litter of pups the zoo has ever seen.

Meerkats only usually have three or four babies at once, so Nairobi and Maputo are going to be busy over the festive period.

The little rascals were born on November 7, but have only just begun moving out of their nest box and into the enclosure. They are not yet named, but zookeepers believe there is an equal boy/girl split.
