Yesterday Palace Cinemas announced it will open a multi-screen complex in the Sydney CBD. The cinema will be at Central Park in Ultimo, Sydney’s newest and eco-friendliest shopping mall. Palace Central will be Palace’s fifth cinema in NSW. It also recently announced a new Double Bay location.
“The most impressive thing about the Central Park location is that it’s so accessible to the people of Sydney; it’s become a major thoroughfare and a new community that we’re delighted to be a part off,” says Benjamin Zeccola, CEO of Palace Cinemas.
The 14-screen complex, which will be located on level three of the centre, will continue the green practices already implemented in the Central Park building. “The building itself has very good environmental credentials and operates on a water heating system. We will link up to this to make the cinema more efficient,” Zeccola says. This is not the first time Palace Cinemas has taken environmental concerns into account. During the renovation of the Palace Westgarth Cinema in Melbourne, Zeccola and his team installed solar panels on the roof of the cinema to reduce their carbon footprint.
The cinema will also be the new home of some Palace Cinema film festivals, such as the Italian Film Festival and the Latino Film Festival.
The familiar Palace style will endure at Central Park Mall. “We are well aware our patrons would rather have a glass of Pinot Grigio than a 600-mililitre buddy of Coke, and so we have designed our cinema, the bar and even the seating with them in mind,” he says.
The complex is scheduled to open in late 2017.
