French singer (and actress and model and all-round dream woman) Lou Doillon has released the video for Where to Start, the bluesy new single from her forthcoming sophomore album Lay Low.
The album was recorded with Canadian artist Taylor Kirk (aka Timber Timbre) during a wintery New Year’s lockdown session in Montreal. Doillon cheerfully press-ganged Kirk into collaboration, having long admired his work. “I was obsessed!” she says. “My label told me he didn’t want to work with anyone, but I harassed him. I don’t think I gave him an option, poor darling.”
“He told me he only could work between Christmas and the New Year, I think it was his way of making sure that this album would never happen. And I told him ‘great’.
“I’ve got to stop this obsession, and stand by my reason,” she sings laconically on Where To Start, strolling through woods and near mountains in an almost comically French velvet blazer. “Let the film roll without me.” It’s hard to imagine that happening – it seems obsession can be a good thing.

Lay Low is released on October 9 through Cartell Music.
