Going to Falls this year? Be prepared to make some tough music-listening decisions. The national art and music festival’s line-up is brimming with musical talent from all corners and genres.
The announcement of definitive “slashie” Childish Gambino as headliner earlier in the year set the bar high for today’s announcement and the rest of the bill delivers on that promise. UK indie rockers London Grammar will be performing new material that the band describes as a mix “between Pocahontas and Fleetwood Mac”.
Grandmaster Flash of The Message and Adventures on the Wheels of Steel fame will bring more than a touch of hip-hop history to proceedings while Perth beatsmith Ta-Ku, recently returned from a North American tour, will be representing the genre’s future.
The Avalanches are another notable addition to the line-up, not least following the release of Wildflower, the band’s controversial follow-up to their ground-breaking 2000 debut album, Since I Left You. Other home-grown talent includes Queensland rockers Violent Soho and Ball Park Music, an five-piece that met at the Queensland University of Technology. In other words, festival-goers have plenty to get excited about.
Additional artists, side shows and food vendors will be announced in the lead-up to each festival.
This year Falls will take place in four locations, Lorne in Victoria, Marion Bay in Tasmania, Byron Bay and for the very first time, Fremantle Western Australia. Tickets available online from 9am on August 30.*
