Since making a comeback in 2019, Newtown’s Vanguard regularly plays host to live performances – from music, theatre and cabaret to comedy. And, really, the only thing better than heading out to a gig or a comedy show is heading to one for free. This September, we’ve got you covered with a chance to win one of five double passes to a one-night-only event featuring all things dark.

The Kraken Black Spiced Rum Presents: The Darkest Show takes place on Wednesday September 13, and it’s set to be a very intimate night, for a crowd of just 100 people. Headlined by Nazeem Hussain, and fellow comedians Becky Lucas and Luke Heggie, the event promises to push boundaries, talk about taboos and shine the spotlight on dark comedy. It’s all in the spirit of The Kraken, named for the dark and mysterious deep sea creature from an old urban legend.

Save 20% when you buy two or more Broadsheet books. Order now to make sure they arrive in time for Christmas.

There will also be plenty of dark drinks on offer, including an Espresso Rumtini on arrival courtesy of The Kraken Black Spiced Rum. The dark theme continues with the food: expect the likes of squid ink pasta with ratatouille and parmesan, and Kraken Rum black arancini with smoked aioli.

Five lucky Broadsheet readers (and their plus ones) will get to experience all of this for free. For your chance to win, all you need to do is enter your name, email and postcode in the form below.

This competition is open to New South Wales residents over the age of 18. Entries close at 11.59pm on Sunday 10 September, 2023. Terms and conditions apply.
