After releasing its first batch of artists, South by Southwest (SXSW) Sydney has announced more than 500 new speakers, workshops, artists, screenings, games and experiences for its October event. And more of the program is yet to be revealed.
On the music line-up so far, there’s dynamic Aussie surf-rock band the Grogans and rock band the Buoys, whose new music video Settle Petal will be shown at the festival as part of the Aussie artist video screenings. Clara Benin – known as the indie darling of the Philippines – will also be taking the stage, as will female Indonesian trio Voice of Baceprot (VOB), who make genre-bending metal with English and Sudanese lyrics. Plus, 16-year-old queer indie singer-songwriter ixaras – whose work explores self-expression and the complexities of growing up – will also perform.
For the SXSW Sydney conference, one of the key speakers added to the bill is Reed Jobs, son of late Apple leader Steve Jobs and founder of venture capital firm Yosemite. There’s also a talk from founder of the first National Indigenous Space Academy (NISA), professor Christopher Lawrence. And award-winning XR (extended reality) designer Sarah Tan will host a workshop on building augmented reality without code.
New SXSW sessions include an examination of how technology changes and reshapes human connections with Bryony Cole, an authority on sextech. Plus, there’s a session on the power of clothing led by fashion profiler and multi-Emmy Award-nominated TV journalist Kathryn Eisman.
Tickets are now on sale.
