Yoga is growing in popularity, but not all studios are created equal. If you want to get your downward dog on in style, these are the studios you need to know about.

Power Living, Bondi Beach

2a Jacques Avenue, Bondi Beach

powerliving.com.au

The newest of the Power Living family (there are eight studios in total), the Bondi Beach branch is the ultimate location for the modern yogi. The studio boasts two yoga rooms – one smaller for more personalised classes and hands-on adjustments – and a bigger one to get your power flow on with the growing Power Living community. Furnishings are a perfect combination of modern and the laid-back style of Bondi Beach. Skylights allow natural light to flood into the yoga rooms, but blinds provide the perfect transition into necessary darkness for a relaxing savasana.

Hom Yoga, Darlinghurst

20 Hargrave Street, Darlinghurst

homyoga.com

Climbing up two steep flights of stairs is your initiation into Hom. A perfect escape for the CBD worker, Hom Yoga is a modern studio located only moments from Hyde Park and Oxford Street. A smaller boutique studio, Hom often feels more like a spa than a yoga studio alone. Classes are less crowded than most studios and the evenly spaced mats make it less likely for you to accidentally bump your neighbour as you flow through your salutations to the sun. The yoga room is heated and filled with light, making for a bright and invigorating practice. Styles on offer include Vinyasa, Ashtanga, Yin, Hatha, and the signature Hot Hom (a combination of Ashtanga and Hatha).

Nikipi Yoga, Alexandria

298 Botany Road, Alexandria

facebook.com/nikipiyoga

Nikipi yoga is the work of Jivamukti yogis and partners Nick Cervonaro and Pashenka Gribbin. Combining some chanting, the study of ancient yogic texts, and meditation, Nikipi recently found its home at The Nest Creative Space in Alexandria. A place for expression and individuality, the studio is raw and classes are taught above the homes of creatives including Milly Dent Design, The Flower Era, I Made This, The Design Twins and Organic Nissa.

yogabeyond.com

Home of Instagram-famous yogis and power couple Honza and Claudine Lafond, Yoga Beyond has created a worldwide community established around the practice of AcroYoga. The aim of AcroYoga practice is to challenge you to take your skills to the next level and help you build trusting relationships. This boutique yoga studio is located next to the Andrew “Boy” Charlton Pool. The open studio features two walls with floor-to-ceiling windows, one covered with rainforest-like fauna, and the other a picturesque view overlooking Woolloomooloo Bay.
