English pop star Sam Smith will perform at this year’s Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, making an appearance at the Mardi Gras Parade before heading over to play the official party at Hordern Pavilion.

Smith will join an already stellar line-up that includes Dua Lipa, Kesha and Brazilian drag star Pabllo Vittar. According to organisers, the Mardi Gras Party will turn Hordern Pavilion into an adults-only wonderland, with music, lights and performance across immersive “fantasy worlds”.

Smith first came to public prominence in 2012, when they performed vocals on electronic duo Disclosure’s hit Latch. They released their first album in 2014 and a follow-up in 2017, selling 25 million albums internationally. Smith has also been awarded four Grammy Awards, an Oscar and a Golden Globe.

The musician has long been an advocate of the LGBTQI+ community and came out as non-binary in 2019. Smith was awarded Best Music Artist at the 2016 British LGBT Awards and has spoken publicly about what it means to be genderqueer.

Mardi Gras Party 2020 will be held at Hordern Pavilion on Saturday February 29 from 10pm to 8am. Final release tickets are now on sale.
