This is a new series in which we recommend the best things to do this month based on your horoscope, as read by Alison Lasek. Astrology not your thing? Skip straight to the culturescopes for some of the best things to see, explore and do in Sydney this month.

The month kicked off between two eclipses, so you may already feel that life has had a shake-up. Eclipses are powerful astrological events – disrupting plans, throwing up unexpected situations. While things might feel a little more challenging, you’ll now know exactly what you’re chasing.

Sagittarius season begins on November 22 and with it comes momentum and optimistic thinking. It’s an excellent time to unleash your adventurous spirit.

Jupiter retrograde wraps up in Pisces on November 23, and with renewed opportunity and good fortune on your side you may notice creative instincts flowing more freely and your intuition calling more loudly. Create some space in your schedule to make the most of it.

Aries

The eclipse stirs thoughts about money and how you make it. It may bring a pay rise, or change the way you value your time. Your optimism will be at an all-time high when Sagittarius season begins. You’ll be craving philosophical conversations, adventure and challenge; it’s a great time to push yourself to try something new.

Culturescope: Head to Irene’s, a pop-up in the former Hartsyard space that’s channelling the punchy flavours of its chef’s childhood in Mumbai into modern-Australian dishes. Or challenge yourself to learn something new by learning how to carve a spoon or build a step stool from reclaimed wood at Marrickville’s Among the Trees.

Taurus

While Sagittarius season is generally adventurous and social, Taureans may find themselves focused on intimate relationships this month. A digital detox and some extra pampering will feel amazing at this time – disconnect from the world, relax and get closer with your closest connections.

Culturescope: Leave your phone at home and wind down at Rimba Sweat, a new infrared sauna studio that feels like a Mediterranean villa. Or, for an unexpected digital detox, head to swish new basement bar Tiva, where theatrical cocktails and nightly live music will keep you away from technology for a few hours.

Gemini

The eclipse highlighted the part of your chart relating to mental health, well-being, stillness and solitude. Take your foot off the gas and nurture yourself. When Sagittarius season begins, your focus will shift to relationships and you’ll find yourself enjoying the company of those closest to you. If you’re single, one of the best dating seasons has arrived. If you’re in a relationship, it’s a great time to inject some adventure into the bedroom.

Culturescope: Reclaim some solitude in the peaceful surrounds of the Blue Mountains in a rustic restored cabin in the bush. Use date night as an opportunity to visit Mitch Orr’s hot new diner, Kiln, on top of the Ace Hotel, and impress your date with your on-the-pulse choice of locale. And if the bedroom prophecy appeals, check out these tips from sexologist Chantelle Otten.

Cancer

Your work or output may earn recognition from a wider audience – soak it up. Plus, you’ll notice thoughts about the future taking centre stage. Let go of anything holding you back. You’ll be in the mood to feel lighter and healthier this month. A rapid detox or juice cleanse won’t do you any favours though. This is the time to set up healthy behaviours that slot seamlessly into your life and can be maintained long-term.

Culturescope: Beeline to Bodylove Pilates’ light-flooded Sydney CBD studio for a good stretch. If your issue with maintaining a fitness routine is that it feels like work, how about trying something a little different: rollerskating, bouldering or stand-up paddleboarding?

Leo

This eclipse is focused squarely on your career. Expect new opportunities to step into the spotlight and take on extra responsibility, and look for ways that work can support your home and family life. Outside of work, pay attention to the things sparking your curiosity – and indulge in them.

Culturescope: Take in the large-scale sculptures and installations at South Korean artist Do Ho Suh’s Sydney-exclusive exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Lose yourself in full-scale replicas of the spaces and studios he’s lived and worked in over the years, or study intimate small-scale household objects such as door handles, switches and light bulbs. (Tip: Broadsheet Access members can get a private tour of the exhibition, with drinks and snacks.)

Virgo

This month you may be inspired to travel, connect with different cultures or learn something new. And when Sagittarius season begins on the 22nd, you may find yourself drawn to home. This isn’t because you’re not feeling social, it’s just a shift of focus. This is the ideal time to host a dinner party and invite those who feel like family. Enjoy sprucing up your living space or creating delicious food.

Culturescope: Have you tried Afghan food? Social enterprise diner Kabul Social is an excellent place to start. Sydney-born mid-century-style furniture brand Reddie just opened its first store and even if you’re not in the market for a curvy couch, it’s the perfect weekend pit-stop. For the dinner party hosts among you, choose a recipe by a top chef and check out our Sydney Pantry series to discover the producers we like to get our ingredients from.

Libra

If you went into this eclipse with a flexible attitude and an open heart, you emerged in a better place. The eclipse may have stirred intense feelings, but that’s a good thing – it’s here to propel you forward in your most intimate relationships. You’ll be feeling chatty and social this month – making friends at the dog park, striking up conversations with baristas or generally being active in the community.

Culturescope: The Southeast Aboriginal Arts Market at Carriageworks is bringing 32 independent Aboriginal artists together under one roof to sell their wares on November 19. Shop ceramics, jewellery, weaving, carving, textiles, painting and prints, take part in a weaving workshop, and dine on dishes loaded with native ingredients. It’s a great opportunity to chat to the artists – who take home 100 per cent of the profits from what they sell.

Scorpio

The eclipse may have stirred up tensions in important relationships and pushed you to resolve underlying issues. New information about a lover or business partner may come to light and caused you to change your perspective. If you’ve been feeling stuck, Sagittarius season is the perfect time to examine your life and get clear on where you want to go next.

Culturescope: Holixir in Balgowlah, which opened this time last year, takes a holistic approach to health and wellbeing. While you’ll find Pilates, yoga and barre classes to keep your body moving, it also offers psychotherapy services for a healthy mind, and massage and acupuncture facilities for a fully integrated experience.

Sagittarius

The lunar eclipse brings changes to the way you balance work and pleasure. If life’s been skewed one way, you’ll finally be ready to make some radical changes – quit procrastinating. Sagittarius season breathes fresh air into things this month – things that might otherwise annoy you will feel insignificant. Channel this energy into new forms of expression and indulge your creative side.

Culturescope: Get your hands dirty at a Sydney ceramics studio. We love Clay Sydney in the inner west and September Studio in the inner east. If you want to enjoy someone else’s creativity, beeline to a fun new musical that reimagines Shakespeare for the online-dating era..

Capricorn

This eclipse may have caused deep desires to come to the surface. This is a time for unbridled self-expression: dance like no one is watching; tell that person how you feel; let your creativity flow. Sagittarius season is a good time to reset the mind and get well-being in check. Create space to pause and take time for yourself. Ancient practices like yoga or meditation will support you to feel your best. If that’s not your jam, treat yourself to a massage.

Culturescope: The enthusiasm of Retrosweat’s aerobics instructors – kitted out in ’80s-themed leotards and sweatbands – and its nostalgia-packing soundtracks will help you forget you’re getting in a high-impact workout. (Or join your Sagittarian mates at the pottery wheel.)

Aquarius

The eclipse brings awareness to habits and patterns you’ve developed without realising, and the ability to let go of outdated ways so you can do things on your own terms. You’ll be feeling bright and social this month, enjoying networking, catching up with old mates and attracting new admirers. If your diary isn’t already full, consider planning an event that brings a diverse groups of friends together.

Culturescope: It’s beer garden season! Gather the troops at one of Sydney’s best.

Pisces

Sagittarius season brings a burst of career momentum. You’ve been working hard, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed. Celebrate small victories and take stock of how far you’ve come. Set clear goals for the future.

Culturescope: Hard work deserves a holiday, or at least some R&R. New hot springs and spa, Alba, has 31 different bathing pools and 22 treatment rooms waiting for your weary body. A celebratory drink may be easier to squeeze in at this time of year – try a cocktail at Kissuu, Oxford Street’s new disco-fuelled restaurant and bar, or Martinis are $10 at Alice ’s “Martini Time”.
