We were promised a real-life Pac-Man-themed escape maze last year, and the details have finally arrived: it’s popping up in Sydney for two days this August.
From the team behind Brick Bar, Pac Maze is based on the iconic arcade game released in Japan in 1980, where players navigate through a maze to collect dots – and the elusive cherry. (The organisers of the event make clear in the fine print they're not associated with the official and trademarked Pac-Man.)
The maze involves solving puzzles and collecting cherries while dodging ghosts for a chance to win prizes. When a ghost catches you, you lose one of your three lives. Lose all your lives and it’s game over.
There will also be an ’80s “pixel bar” with an OG Pac-Man game system and a DJ.
Venue details are still hush-hush, but it’ll be somewhere in the inner west.
The maze will be open from August 16 to 18. The Friday session, from 6pm to 11pm, is adults only. Children can attend on Saturday between 10am and 6pm. After that, until 10pm, it’s then adults-only again.
