St Vincent coming to town is always cause for celebration. The chameleonic US indie-pop star – aka Annie Clark – is due to play her only Sydney show on Sunday June 17, as part of Vivid Live presented by Carriageworks. To mark the occasion, we’re offering one reader and a friend tickets to see St Vincent perform tracks from her latest album, Masseduction, as part of a decadent evening of attractions befitting the occasion.
Before the show on Sunday 17 June, the winners will check into the stylish The Old Clare Hotel on Kensington Street in Chippendale. Once a dowdy local pub, the magnificently refurbished hotel now features 62 boutique rooms, as well as three restaurants and a rooftop pool and bar. Set in the heart of the city, it’s the perfect spot to prepare for a night out.
This will be aided by the presence of a present upon arrival. Guests will find a gift of bespoke booze waiting in their room, featuring beer from Newtown’s own Young Henrys brewery, gin from Rosebery’s Archie Rose Distilling Co. and wine from boutique Victorian producer Scotchmans Hill to whet the palate.
From there you’ll stroll around the corner to enjoy dinner for two at Automata. A fun, energetic take on fine dining headed by ex-Momofuku Seiōbo chef Clayton Wells, the stylish industrial-tinged diner offers a rotating five-course set menu, starting with snacks, then savoury dishes and dessert. Current offerings include refined fuss-free fare such as kingfish tartare with yuzu kosho, persimmon, shiso and caper, mud crab and shiitake pasta, and black pepper ice-cream with custard apple, granny smith, and almond crisp.
Dinner done, head across to Carriageworks in Eveleigh to witness St Vincent in all her glory, before repairing to the The Old Clare for a well-earned night’s rest. It’s not over at the end of the night, however – our winners will also enjoy a complimentary breakfast before check-out.
