Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has announced LGBTQI icon Cher will headline the Official 2018 Mardi Gras Party on Saturday March 3, 2018. This year marks the event’s 40th anniversary. And on top of that, we’re celebrating a “Yes.”

Even before news of Cher’s headline performance was confirmed, this year’s Mardi Gras Party sold out in record time. But extra tickets will be released on Monday January 15 at 10am sharp following the organisers' decision to add additional capacity for Mardi Gras members. Two days later, at 10am on Wednesday 17 January, the final tickets will be released to the general public.

Expect to hear hits including Believe, Strong Enough, All or Nothing, The Shoop Shoop Song, I Got You Babe, If I Could Turn Back Time, Half Breed and Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves.

“Cher has established herself as an influential, hard-hitting voice in global politics, and throughout her career has been at the forefront of LGBTQI campaigns and numerous charities,” said Mardi Gras CEO, Terese Casu, in an official statement. “Cher represents the same unapologetic and fearless freedom that makes the LGBTQI community so enduring and strong – positioning herself as a true gay icon.”

Previous Mardi Gras parties have welcomed George Michael, the Village People, Cyndi Lauper and Calvin Harris.
