Ask croissants fiends where they go for their pastry fix and there’ll be a few names on the hit list. Tenacious, a compact croissanterie sticking out among a ragtag bunch of businesses on Oxford Street, will invariably sit towards the top.
Yeongjin Park (ex- Lode Pies and Pastries) is behind the inventive creations here, which fold Korean and broader Asian influences into the pastry pantheon.
Laminated sourdough gets the classic croissant treatment – but you’ll also find dark coils infused with black garlic, and crescents topped with either pepperoni and cheese. The star of the pastry cabinet is the Portuguese tart; a blistered cup of miso caramel as big as a brick.
The one-two punch of good coffee and quality pastry isn’t lost on Park. He’s tapped a cast of specialty roasters including Sydney's Diggy Doo’s and Stitch for hot brews. On the cold front, thirst-quenchers include iced raspberry Sencha and “chico rita”, a milky cold brew coffee laced with chicory.
