The Strand is launching a new burger menu by Ricos Tacos’ Toby Wilson and Solotel executive chef Hamish Ingham. To celebrate, the pub is doing $5 burgers for five days – including a smashed beef or prawn – from Wednesday August 20 to Sunday August 24.

For more than a century, The Strand Hotel has anchored the corner of William and Crown streets in Darlinghurst. Once a backpacker pub known for cheap pints, it’s now revitalised under Solotel (Aria, Golden Sheaf, Barangaroo House) as a boutique hotel and with a polished food and drink offering. The downstairs public bar serves upmarket pub grub, while a sunny rooftop bar offers a more casual Mediterranean menu, communal tables and DJs after dark. Those backpacker rooms? They’re long gone. Today the pub flaunts 17 boutique rooms perfect for an inner-city stay.
