The Green Park Hotel feels more like a spacious neighbourhood bar than a pub. Built on the corner of Victoria and Liverpool Streets in 1893 (see the little Union Jack etchings made by the 1920s Razorhurst gangs on the pub’s facade on the Liverpool Street side), it’s a single level of dark wood and low-lit corners, with just enough real estate for its iconic weekend dance floor. Affectionately known as the “Greeny”, it’s beloved by the Darlinghurst community – fiercely so during Mardi Gras.

The stunning horseshoe bar with heritage-era sapphire tiling has 14 unique beer taps, but the gin-heavy back bar has pride of place (the Dirty Martini and Mandarin Gimlet are house favourites). You can also order food in from a changing list of nearby eateries.

Out the back, the patio doubles as a private function space, complete with brown leather booths and a pool table. The fabled Greeny courtyard is a feat of such licensing genius, even non-smokers must concede that its open roof and cascading vertical garden make it one of the most innovative indoor-outdoor smoking sections in Sydney.
