Features
Homer Rogue Taverna is an Athens-inspired restaurant by brothers Harry and Mario Kapoulas. The pair are long-time Cronulla locals and also own nearby cafe Ham. So they know the area, and had a hunch that an unfussy neighbourhood spot, packed with Greek classics, was just the thing the neighbourhood needed. They were right: the moment it opened, locals took to it with aplomb. Soon enough, the rest of Sydney – and even curious diners from as far afield as Newcastle and Wollongong – were booking in.
The Kapoulas brothers want Homer to be 70 per cent classic Greek, with a 30 per cent modern twist. That means bifteki yiros might come with a Big Mac-inspired sauce, or spanakorizo – a typical spinach and rice side dish – is given the main course treatment, and crested with a fillet of fish. Don’t miss fun dishes like the rooster stifado “cigars,” arrive plated up in an ashtray filled with dipping sauce. It’s all complemented by a stylish interiors, friendly staff, and a Greek-leaning drinks list.
