It was announced today that YesFest has been cancelled. The concert was organised by Australian Marriage Equality in partnership with M&C Saatchi. It was to be held this month to encourage people to submit their vote and support the “Yes” campaign.

“YesFest was always a huge project to pull off in a short amount of time, and unfortunately, we're unable to move forward,” says Prue Purnell, who was part of the M&C Saatchi team who organised it.

Another organiser, Jonno Seidler, wrote in a statement that there was no one reason it didn’t go ahead. “It was a combination of factors beyond our control; a complacency and exhaustion around the vote, a glut of other festivals in the market, a confusion around messaging and too many other people attempting to activate in the same space, issues around corporate funding and Australia’s general malaise when it comes to ticket sales,” he said.

The first line-up announcement included Client Liaison, Flight Facilities (DJs), Heaps Gay DJs, Jack Colwell, Kirin J Callinan, Killing Heidi, KLP, Megan Washington, Nic Cester (Jet), Northeast Party House, The Preatures, Tkay Maidza, Touch Sensitive and special guest Jimmy Barnes.

Tickets will be refunded, with an update coming soon.

“Let’s not let all the energy behind YesFest go to waste,” says Purnell. “Please, get out there and make sure you’ve voted Yes, and ensure your friends and family have done the same. This debate has been a long road so far, but we’re not there yet. Let’s keep pushing and get Yes over the line.”
