After hearing a semi-trailer carrying 30 tonnes of cheese rolled on the Hume Highway near Goulburn earlier this morning (and after realising no one was hurt) there was one question on our minds: What will become of the cheese?

A NSW Fire & Rescue spokesperson told the Sydney Morning Herald that crews were called to the scene to salvage the truck. And that the cheese has been collected and put into another refrigerated trailer. “It’s a lot of cheese,” the spokesperson said, with some understatement.

Bizarrely, this is not the first cheese splatter in recent memory. In 2016, a full load of Bega cheese crashed on the Princes Highway south of Nowra, closing the highway for half a day and causing traffic chaos.

Traffic diversions have been put in place and one of two northbound lanes have been closed, causing caused stoppages and traffic delays.
