Matt Moran and business partner Bruce Solomon have bought Newtown’s The Marlborough Hotel.

The Newtown favourite, affectionately called The Marly, went on the market in February for a cool $35 million and reportedly sold for just under that figure. The sellers, Geoff Dixon and John Singleton of the Riversdale Group, made a profit of $20 million – they bought The Marly in 2012 for $12.2 million.

Moran and Solomon own a number of pubs in the area including the Bank Hotel and the Courthouse Hotel. Their hospitality group Solotel also owns Chiswick, Opera Bar, Aria and Paddington Inn.

There is no news yet on whether or not the pair will make changes to the pub.

Updates to come.
