The government’s same-sex marriage postal survey is looming. Much has already been written about this cruel, expensive and unnecessary exercise. What we need now is hope and solidarity.

Keenly anticipating a “yes” result in November, Wayward Brewing Co. is running a Facebook competition for engaged same-sex couples. The prize: a brewery wedding.

“For us, the marriage equality vote is a huge deal,” says Faye White, Wayward’s creative director. “We wanted to do something bold, to make sure people would enrol and that they were definitely voting. If you feel strongly about something, you should be getting out there and shouting about it. That’s how things get passed.”

To enter the competition, couples simply need to comment on Wayward’s Facebook post with a photo of themselves and a short (preferably adorable) spiel about their relationship. The couple with the most-popular comment wins a wedding package at the Camperdown brewery. This includes private use of Wayward’s sleek Cellar Bar for the reception and a bar tab to get things started.

Wayward is also offering free middies to anyone wearing their “I’m Voting Yes” stickers. Just grab a sticker up their Cellar Bar, post a photo of it and then, free beer.
