There’s a lot happening around Sydney’s CBD at the moment – from an up-and-coming precinct at Wynyard Station to the revitalisation of the MLC Centre as a food and retail hub, we’ll have no shortage of fun new spots to check out by the end of the year. Now, yet another precinct has announced it’s adding several attention-grabbing venues to an already stellar line-up.

Quay Quarter, near Circular Quay, will encompass two city blocks; its lynchpin will be a 49-storey skyscraper that’s set to open in 2022. Nearby merchant laneways between Young and Loftus streets will be revitalised with more than 20 spots to eat, drink, dine and shop; a further 30 will launch as part of the tower development. The precinct’s first venue, Hinchcliff House on Young Street, has already opened with two eateries and a basement bar. And a bunch of operators were announced for Quay Quarter Lanes last year, including Marrickville Pork Roll, specialty coffee roaster and cafe Skittle Lane, and Kobo, an eight-seat chef’s table from the Tokki team.

Now several other eateries and retailers have been confirmed for the precinct. There’ll be Londres 126, a 57-seat contemporary Mexican and Latin-American eatery from Milpa Collective, the group behind diners such as Carbon, Sonora and Calita. It’s inspired by the colourful parties thrown by legendary artist Frida Kahlo in the ’40s.

Fishbowl’s cafe, Side Room, is also set to open in the precinct. Expect robust coffee; bowls packed with the likes of harissa chicken, beef brisket and spiced lamb; and better-than-average toast.

Also expect a gelateria from Matteo Zini, the man behind Brisbane’s La Macelleria Gelateria. Zini Contemporary Gelateria will serve gelato, coffee and “healthy take-out” gelato. Also in the after-dinner category is Sweet Grana, a dessert bar that’ll form part of Hinchcliff House and be a sister restaurant to Grana, the all-day Italian eatery and bakery that recently opened in the former wool store.

Plus, hair salon Tribe Lifestyle will open in the precinct. The 20 venues in the Quay Quarter Lanes hub are set to open in September; the other 30 are slated to launch when Quay Quarter Tower is completed in 2022.
