Paddy’s Markets in Flemington and Haymarket will reopen Friday June 5, following the government’s continued loosening of lockdown restrictions. Both markets were temporarily closed in March.
While the fresh produce markets at both locations will be in business again, Sunday trading and the swap-and-sell market at Flemington, and Haymarket’s non-food market will remain closed for now.
Social distancing measures will be put in place to ensure customers remain safe. Numbers will be capped; visitors will be required to use hand sanitiser and undergo temperature testing before entry; and a two-hour limit will apply.
All areas of the market have undergone deep cleaning and sanitisation of “touch points” and visitors are encouraged to download the Covidsafe app.
The markets paused stallholders’ rent during the shutdown and, to help them recover after the shutdown period, will be waiving rent payments until the end of this month.
