At 1.10pm today, Sydney smashed a more than 70-year-old record and officially recorded its wettest year ever – and there’s more on the way. But the torrential conditions didn’t stop tweeters from having a field day.

It’s now officially Sydney’s wettest year on record. A total of 2,199mm of rain has been recorded. The previous rainfall record was 2,194mm set in 1950.
