It may be hard to imagine jumping into a pool in this weather, but Sunday, September 1 is the official start of Sydney’s swimming season, with some of the city’s best pools reopening following their winter hibernation.

Drummoyne and Cabarita pools in the inner west will both be welcoming swimmers for a splash, as well as offering discounts on memberships and a free barbeque. Concord’s Cabarita Swimming Centre has three heated pools (including one for toddlers) and a grassy area to soak up the rays between dips and take in views of the Paramatta River just metres away.

There are also great views at Andrew (Boy) Charlton, near Mrs Macquarie’s Chair and the Royal Botanic Garden. As you do freestyle sprints in the outdoor heated saltwater 50-metre pool, check out the naval fleet docked at Fleet Base East. Entry will be free all day at the reopening this Sunday, plus there’ll be free yoga classes on the picturesque deck and complimentary bacon-and-egg rolls for breakfast. And if you sign up to become a member, the joining fee will be waived and you’ll get your first two weeks of membership free. (Parents booking in their tots for swimming classes will also get the first two weeks of lessons on the house.)
