If the last fortnight is anything to go by, with its floods and heat waves, Sydney’s weather is one unpredictable beast.

Thunderstorm warnings have been issued for this afternoon, particularly in Penrith, Hornsby, Richmond and Picton. The storm is currently headed for the CBD.

A spokesperson from the Bureau of Meterology says we’re set to witness “large hailstones, bigger than 2 centimetres, in the next half hour.”

Winds of up to 100 kilometres per hour are expected for later this afternoon. As a result, road blockages are likely, so watch out for falling trees, telephone poles, ice-cream vans, the neighbours’ cat, or anything that looks a little unsteady.

Warnings have been made to drivers to slow down and use headlights. Take your time – don’t rush home.
